Introduction day to the art of Traditional Lampshade making

This one day workshop will give you a good start and insight into traditional Stretch Lampshade making. Unlike the laminated drum Lampshades that are stuck and wrapped onto a frame, traditionaly Lampshades were covered using a stretching method giving a lighter less plastic finish. In this class you will be provided with a small 20cm frame and with the guidance of Jenny your tutor you will learn the first basic steps to creating bespoke Lampshades and finishing with a ready made trim

What to bring to the class

50cm of your chosen fabric Cotton Linen and silk work well avoid embroidered , stiff and loosely woven fabrics

A Metal Thimble

Thread to match your fabric

Ready  made trim – for the top edge 40cm for the base 70cm

Included in the cost of the class are a 20cm frame and binding tape

We have sewing machines and equipment for you to use
