Pattern Cutting Skirt Block and Skirt Design

Having an idea for a design can be very exciting but its important to know how to take that idea and transfer into something wearable. All garment designs initially are worked from Blocks. In this course you will learn how to create your own personal skirt block on paper, make up a toile and check for fit adapting as necessary, then using your block learn some basic skills to add design and detail turning your own design into a skirt.

Skill level- Beginner @ pattern cutting, Intermediate in Sewing

Beginners 5 day Get into Sewing Course

A photo of some fabric and threadThis complete beginners sewing course will set you of on new crafting adventures

Day 1- We will complete the How to Use a sewing machine class and make a tote bag to keep our sewing projects in along with a cute pin cushion.

Day 2 – We will create some useful samples that can be referred to in the future, these will include seams hems and hand and machine sewing techniques.

Day 3 – We will start the day finding out about pattern terms and then cut a wrap skirt out from a commercial pattern and make all the relevant markings onto the fabric

Day 4 – You will make up your skirt

Day 5 – Will be a fun conclusion to the course making a patchwork cushion  with a zip to finish

Skill level- Complete beginner

To teach you the skills you need to become confident with using a sewing machine and following simple patterns and make some simple projects

You may wish to bring your own Sewing Machine if you have one

4 Week Soft Tailoring Jacket Making

CHECK JACKET ON MANEQUINMake yourself something to be proud of and a timeless classic. I love soft tailoring its my favourite pastime and working with winter weight fabrics makes colder days bearable. You are welcome to make a jacket of your choice or this jacket which I have made repeatedly over the past 5 years for many people.  If you would like to move on in your skill set then this is your class

Skill level-Intermediate +/ Advanced.

What to bring to the class

Should you wish to make one of My Jackets (as pictured and displayed in our workshop) please email us at the time of booking so that we can prepare a pattern for you otherwise  you are welcome to bring a pattern of your choice, if possible please choose a multi size pattern. Commercial pattern sizing tends to work out smaller than sizes of ready made clothing so please check to ensure your basic measurements fall within the size range on the pattern.  (When measuring yourself for this, bring a tape measure around your waist, hips and bust and pull tightly enough to get an accurate measurement don’t add anything for ease.)

Fabrics for my jacket will be advised when I receive your measurements but they are approximately 2m of main fabric 150cm wide and 1.5 m of lining

Summer holiday 2 day Dressmaking

A photo of a dress on a taylor's dummyTwo days of dressmaking suitable for anyone that can use a sewing machine and wants to add to their holiday wardrobe. Many commercial patterns have tricky to follow instructions and the best way to improve is to keep adding to and practising your sewing techniques. The class is small and allows your tutor plenty of time to give advice and show techniques that will help you gain a successful result. Choose a pattern according to your previous abilities, bare in mind this is a short course of only 12 hours so simple dresses, tops and bottoms would be best  .

Skill level- If you know how to use a sewing machine and have completed small craft projects and simple dressmaking you will be at a skill level to partake in this course. Please bare in mind your ability when choosing your pattern. As with all projects some take longer than others so you may wish to finish off at home.

The class is small and allows your tutor time to give plenty of individual advice and show techniques that help you gain a successful result, choose any pattern according to your previous abilities, from a beginners skirt to an advanced evening dress or why not try your hand at soft tailoring.

Skill level- If you know how to use a sewing machine and have completed small craft projects you will be at a skill level to partake in this course. Please bare in mind your ability when choosing your pattern.
